Schwidder almost always makes use of old or used materials together with new and found materials, such as feathers and weather-beaten wood. For him recycling evokes ideas of materialism, spirituality and words (as a way of accessing thoughts). Each idea changes the other by association. In this way his work has a spiritual and an intellectual basis.
His statement is: Art reveals a secret without betraying it. Art awakens the spectator and intrigues him.
Schwidder has created his 'Stream of Consciousness' for the 'Recycle Art' project. It is an interaction between recycled materials and the spectator. The slightest movement by the spectator initiates the whispering of the objects with the wind
'Look at my art as an image with another image in it. That gives consciousness.'
