Alessandro Wesch

'Mozart is for me a device to come to a mental purification.'

Wesch went through a personal recycling process himself when he returned to the village of his youth. It had been abandoned for many years due to avalanche risk. The combination its deserted state and the avalanche risk gave the village a strange energy. He felt driven to rescue and preserve things of sentimental value. Objects that were obsolete and neglected but spoke volumes about the traditions and culture of the village and its history were salvaged. They now form part of a museum created by the residents of the new village. Thus part of Wesch's personal history has been recycled and the value of these objects elevated to a higher level of significance.

For the symposium he uses his favourite colour black and the music of Mozart. To him black is a place that forms a boundary between different realities. He spent the week of the symposium working with the music of Mozart in the background. The music of Mozart is purifying and leaves signs behind which can be transformed through painting and transend the object.

'My work has not been created for a particular audience. I shall accept that the public's interpretation will change my work in a certain metaphorical way.'
